Subject: Solar Event

We have just had a major X-class flare that is still in progress.  Thus
far, it does not appear that this will be of long duration.  It has
precipitated an immediate proton storm event.  Solar wind speed is
currently at 619 km/sec (moderate) and the polar angle is neutral,
meaning that as yet is not having a significant impact.  If this is
geoeffective, which is likely, the geomagnetic impact will likely reach
Earth sometime Sunday.

I'll send more data as more is known.
