Hmmmm, the link to the study doesn't work.  It took a while but I found it on the UAB website.

http://www.nsstc.uah.edu/atmos/christy/2007_Dougless_etal.pdf

It turns out that these are the three guys left who don't believe that humans are causing global warming and that it will have disastrous consequences for the planet.  They say other scientists agree with them, but they can't seem to remember any of their names.

The author from UAB, John Christy, does appear to actually have the chops to comment on this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Christy

The study concludes that predictions of the effects global warming are overstated.

"If these results continue to be supported, then
future projections of temperature change, as depicted in
the present suite of climate models, are likely too high."

They only used data from 1979 forward.

There was nothing in the study resembling the following statement:  "The report dismisses attempts to reverse global warming by reducing carbon emissions as ineffective and pointless."

However, Christy did say the following in a recent interview:

"It is scientifically inconceivable that after changing forests into cities, turning millions of acres into irrigated farmland, putting massive quantities of soot and dust into the air, and putting extra greenhouse gases into the air, that the natural course of climate has not changed in some way."

He is considered a lonely holdout among respected scientists in doubting predictions of catastrophic consequences due to global warming.

I suspect his background as a preacher might influence this, what with man's god-given dominion over the planet and all that.

The publication is from an old club of amateur weather watchers, and even then, no evidence they agree with the study.

Here's another one of the authors, whose resume includes being a paid toadie for the tobacco industry (wonder how he got that job at U.Va.?) and apologist for other polluters:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S._Fred_Singer
BTW, couldn't find any evidence he is still actually associated with U. Va.

David Douglass appears to come to conclusions before embarking on his studies, and has long been a skeptic dedicated to debunking claims of man's contribution to global warning.

Neither of these guys are specialists in this area.  They are both physicists, both with undergrad degrees in electrical engineering.  Neither have particularly distinguished themselves, other than in their ability to get press coverage.

Prison Planet is hardly an objective resource, and their link to the original UPI story was invalid.   I did find find variations on the story at a few other right-wing propaganda websites.

But, I know you want to believe them.

Warmly,

Buttercup

Study Says Global Warming Is Natural
Attempts to reduce CO2 emissions "pointless" as sun is cited as climate change culprit

The so-called scientific consensus that global warming is man-made has been shattered with the release of a major new study backed by three universities which concludes that climate change over the past thirty years is explained by natural factors and that attempts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions are irrelevant.
Climate scientists at the University of Rochester, the University of Alabama, and the University of Virginia report that temperature fluctuations over the past three decades are not consistent with greenhouse model predictions and more closely correlate with solar activity.
The report dismisses attempts to reverse global warming by reducing carbon emissions as ineffective and pointless.
