Subject: [focus-group] Meditation Focus #136: Being All The Compassion We
Can be

What follows is the 136th Meditation Focus suggested for the next 2 weeks
beginning Sunday, September 11, 2005.

1. Summary
2. Meditation times
3. More information related to this Meditation Focus

Once upon a time, ten sages of great wisdom came to Earth to assist the
awakening human beings upon their path of self-discovery. Each one of them
has a unique gift to share with all who are ready to listen to them. Each of
these ten gifts is an essential element that each soul aspiring to complete
spiritual awakening needs to embody perfectly in order to succeed. The
understanding of Love as the first Key was the gift offered by the first
sage. Compassion is the gift presented by the second sage. Here is what this
sage has to say about it.

In essence, we are all One, but in the physical form we appear as separate
beings, each seemingly unrelated to all other beings. Yet this is an
illusion, as all Life forms are intrinsically connected to all others
through the same Life Force pulsing and flowing through their cells.
Realizing that deep within leads to increased caring for all others in
service to the One Life in All. Compassion is that sense of
being-responsible-for-the-well-being-of-all in action. Acting with
compassion is also love in action, for love and compassion are both sides of
the same coin.

Once we embody compassion, through all kinds of gratuitous, selfless acts of
kindness, we know from the fulfilling sentiment of doing what is needed for
the highest good of all that we have become an instrument of a Higher
Purpose. Through opening ourselves to being such instruments of the One Life
in All, we cease to experience the illusion of separation, for in completely
surrendering ourselves to serving All That Is through whatever opportunity
presenting itself to us in perfect synchrony, we become One with All That

Thus through embodying Compassion, the Second Key of your Global Awakening,
you step into and co-create the New Era of Peace, Love and Harmony that is
now manifesting.

As you join in synchronous meditation with all, simply Be All The Compassion
That You Can Be, for the Highest Good of All.

maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak
and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment."

- Arthur Jersild

"Compassion is not sentiment but is making justice and doing works of mercy.
Compassion is not a moral commandment but a flow and overflow of the fullest
human and divine energies."

Please note that the current crisis created in Hurricane Katrina's wake
offers, like all other similar catastrophes, an opportunity to exercise our
ability to act with compassion and generosity. For that reason, some

Meditation Focus #46: The Need For Greater Compassion Towards All Our Fellow
Human Beings (Posted on September 1, 2001)

Living the Compassionate Life by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
(...) Compassion without attachment is possible. Therefore, we need to
clarify the distinctions between compassion and attachment. True compassion
is not just an emotional response but a firm commitment founded on reason.
Because of this firm foundation, a truly compassionate attitude toward
others does not change even if they behave negatively. Genuine compassion is
based not on our own projections and expectations, but rather on the needs
of the other: irrespective of whether another person is a close friend or an
enemy, as long as that person wishes for peace and happiness and wishes to
overcome suffering, then on that basis we develop genuine concern for their
problem. This is genuine compassion.

Compassion From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Compassion (in Pali: Karuna) is a sense of shared suffering, most often
combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce such suffering; to show
special kindness to those who suffer. Compassionate acts are generally
considered those which take into account the suffering of others and attempt
to alleviate that suffering as if it were one's own. In this sense, the
various forms of the Golden Rule are clearly based on the concept of
compassion. Compassion differs from other forms of helpful or humane
behavior in that its focus is primarily on the alleviation of suffering.
Acts of kindness which seek primarily to confer benefit rather than relieve
existing suffering are better classified as acts of altruism, although, in
this sense, compassion itself can be seen as a subset of altruism, it being
defined as the type of behavior which seeks to benefit others by reducing
their suffering.
